Debating the Bible and Vegetarianism
I'd recommend starting a debate with a theory to prove, such as
"to prove that men today should kill animals for food because the Bible says
so." The exact wording is important unless you want to go in circles.
For example, to prove the above you would have to prove the following:
1. Prove that the Bible is the definitive moral code for (Christians or
everyone?) -- or modify your original theory to say "for those who accept the
Bible as their moral code" etc.
Frankly, this is still debatable among scholarly Christians.
2. Prove that the Bible unambiguously states that it is
always morally acceptable for men to
kill animals for food (regardless of their suffering) -- or modify your original
It doesn't prove anything to show that killing is
sometimes morally acceptable, since the
center of the animal rights movement (and about 3 sigma on either side of
center) concedes that it is morally acceptable to kill another (human or
otherwise) if one's own survival is at risk, and concedes that it is morally
acceptable to consume the meat of someone who has died naturally (or whose death
one had no direct or indirect hand in, such as road-kill).
Frankly, the Bible is never that unambiguous.
Using examples of Christ or God doing something does not prove that all similar
actions have their blessing:
A few of many actions in the Bible that I hope nobody uses to establish their
When God is unhappy with the wickedness of man and decides to flood the earth to
eliminate mankind. All living things including plants, animals, women and
innocent children are also exterminated. (This is like burning down a village to
rid it of mice.)
DT 21:10-14 With the Lord's approval, the Israelites are allowed to kidnap
"beautiful women" from the enemy camp to be their trial wives. If, after having
sexual relations, a man has "no delight" in his wife, he can simply let her go.

where there is not at least one dead.
