UPTOWN -- An animal protection group,
Showing Animals Respect and Kindness,
said it knows the identity of the Indiana farmer who
allegedly captured Uptown pigeons and took them back to Indiana for
undisclosed purposes.
"SHARK offered a $1,000 reward for the
trapper's identity," the group said in a Thursday morning press release.
"The bounty netted Herbert (Bud) Govert, a notorious Indiana pigeon trapper
who supplies live pigeon shoots for gun wielding thrill killers in Indiana
and other states."
The farmer was not immediately available for
comment.
On Friday, SHARK plans to hold a protest at James
Cappleman's 46th Ward office.
Activists will hand out DVDs with
footage of pigeon shoots to passersby, according to the release. The release
said activists would also have iPads on hand to show people the footage.
SHARK has been documenting the shoots for years, and said that "hundreds" of
the group's videos "exposing pigeon shoots," can be found on Youtube.
The release said the group also "demands that Cappleman ensure there
will be no future trapping and round-ups of pigeons."
Cappleman was
not immediately available for comment about the planned protest.
