12 Days Xmas, Day 8: Sleigh Bells Ring, Are You Listening?

DAY 8: Sleigh Bells Ring, Are You Listening?
"NYC Holiday Events for Horse Drawn Carriages"

This week and weekend are big mony makers for the greedy horse drawn carriage drivers and owners. While most are enjoying the holiday, relaxing with family and friends, the carriage horses will be out no matter what the weather. With holiday traffic and intoxicated drivers on the city streets, conditions will be even more perilous for the poor horses.

A new and unique event has been promoted on Facebook. It is an event entitled: Horse Drawn Carriage Flash Carolers - Facebook

Calling All Carolers
Posted on December 21, 2010 by James Koroni

"Carolers are a charming tradition every year around the holidays. What fun it is to ride and sing a sleighing song tonight! Unfortunately it isn’t so fun for those who painstakingly pull jolly carolers through the snow. Not this time!
Horse Drawn Carriages are cruel.

I’d like to inspire artists to rally up their vocal chords. New York City, it’s about time you sing a different tune. We’ve invited talented writers to put new words to familiar jingles. We provide the words and you make the music. Try to sway as many riders as you can to use Pedicabs instead of Horse Drawn Carriages. We will provide literature to pass out and songbooks for you to sing from. Simply wear over the top holiday outfits and show up! What do you say?"

Thursday, December 23 7:00pm- 9:00pm
Meet at the central fountain area of Columbus Circle!

Slipping through the snow
In a horse-drawn carriage sleigh
O'er the cars we go
crashing all the way
blind, can’t see a thing
horses steering right
What fun it is to laugh and sing
A horse is dead tonight!

Oh, driver yells, horseshit smells
19 hour day
Oh, what hell it is to ride
in a horse-drawn carriage sleigh

For those that like their activism with a little bit more of an edge, join us on Sunday, December 26, 2010, as we take up our regular position at the hack line. Also, if you would like to join us on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day for some caroling at the homes of animal abusers and exploiters, please let us know. We will not be posting that meetup information publicly, for obvious reasons.
