FDA Obstructing Release of Antibiotic Report

"People will pay a price for putting political obstruction over progress in a time that is so critical and urgent."
- Senator Tim Kaine

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has finished a report of antibiotics in milk and meat which they hesitate to release.

On Thursday, November 13, 2014 , the Wall Street Journal wrote:

"For the second time this year, a group of U.S. Senators is pressing the FDA to strengthen its oversight of antibiotics that are used in food-producing livestock. In a letter sent yesterday to the agency, the senators say they want FDA officials to collect data on the extent to which these medicines are used by food producers. At issue is growing concern that humans are becoming increasingly resistant to antibiotics that are widely used in food-producing animals."

On Saturday, November 15, 2014 , Bovine Veterinarian (bovinevetonline.com) posted a series of lies and distortions regarding permissible levels of antibiotics in milk. The dairy industry reporter pretended that he actually has seen the FDA report which has not yet been released to the senate. If that was so, the FDA "leaker" would be out of a job and our of a career. The absurd dairy writer laughably wrote:

"A federal government employee with access to the long-delayed report on the FDA sampling study spoke to Dairy Herd Management on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to talk about the still- classified information."

"The source confirmed that residues were found, but none in a statistically significant result, and that one drug would be the main culprit. When asked if they still consumed milk after reading the report, the source chuckled and quickly said, 'Yes.'"

"Our United States dairy industry has a track record of a high-quality product free of antibiotics, whether our customers realize it or not."

Puhleeeeese!

Notmilk responded by communicating with the Bovine Veterinarian reporter:

"Dear Lucas Sjostrom,

"I suspect that you know the truth, but recognize that there is a chance you do not. If that is the case, you then have the opportunity to right a wrong. If you do not take this opportunity, you will forever be haunted by yours truly when I reveal your deceit to the public through my daily Notmilk newsletter.

"I challenge you to tell the well-protected secret regarding FDA permissible level of antibiotics permitted in milk.

"Fact is, the allowable level of residues of antimicrobials was once one part per hundred- million. Today's standard is one part per million.

"In 1994, FDA, Monsanto, and the dairy industry were aware that cows treated with the genetically engineered bovine growth hormone rbGH/rbST) would potentially be stressed with increased cases of mastitis due to increased milking.

"Monsanto sent their top scientist, Margaret Miller to work at FDA's investigative branch, The Centers for Veterinary Medicine (CVM). Once there, without any testing, Dr. Miller arbitrarily changed the antibiotic protocol by increasing the new standard by a factor of 100 times. Today's milk now easily fits well within that range because of the empowerment given to Monsanto's ex-employee.

"Miller action befriended her ex-boss, and was also a gift to the dairy industry, while it remains an extreme betrayal to American dairy consumers.

"Go ahead, show me that you have ethics. Let the truth be known. Why do I know in my heart that you lack the courage or integrity to do so?"

I RECEIVED AN EMAIL RESPONSE FROM LUCAS:

"Hi Robert,

"An interesting take, linking Monsanto to mastitis to antibiotics. Quite a stretch.

"Based on my first hand experience your story is hard to believe.

"But I happen to doubt that is how the story might have played out based on the checks and balances we have. Things like that can happen, sure, but conspiracy theories are usually just theories. Lucas"

I responded to Lucas by reminding him that I name names and give details which are easily confirmed.

That is the last I heard from him.

For a seemingly bright and sincere man, this Lucas Sjostrom personifies the industry he represents: A big phony and a fraud.
