ANIMAL Liberation NSW has launched a graphic television advertising campaign, targeting Australia's battery hen industry.

The group is calling for people to eat free-range eggs and be more aware of the foods they eat.

"It is not just being stuck in cages, it is the mental suffering of these chickens as well," said actor-turned-activist Lynda Stoner of Animal Liberation NSW.

"Chickens are really bright, intelligent and curious creatures so you could imagine what stress that causes them to be cooped up in these cages."

The advertisement will also be screened on the internet, at www.nocagedeggs.com.

"It is probably the first time an advertisement has been made where people can actually equate where their food has come from," said Stoner.
