LEWISTON - An undercover animal-abuse investigator at Quality Egg of New England says he tried to let his bosses at the Turner egg farm know what he saw.
They dismissed his reports of animal cruelty, said Jason Smith, who was hired by Mercy for Animals to investigate the treatment of hens at the former DeCoster operation.
"Nobody cared," he said via cell phone Tuesday. Smith said he even asked Jay DeCoster, the son of farm owner Austin "Jack" DeCoster.
"Every time, they told me, 'Ignore it. Don't worry about it,'" Smith said.
