Last week, a two-year-old Chihuahua adopted a fresh litter of motherless kitties after she herself gave birth to stillborn puppies. On May 2, the Las Vegas Sun ran the story of "Daisy" and her meowing brood, prompting a flood of interest at the shelter.

"We are thrilled by this recognition because this little dog has brought so much attention to the need for foster care of kittens," said Animal Foundation director Mary Herro. "The day after the Sun ran the story we got 45 kittens into new foster (temporary) homes."
