Glaxo Smith Kline Fined

March 28th, 2007

Herald Sun newspaper, Australia

The multinational company that makes Ribena has been fined $192,900 after two school girls exposed its false claims about the drink's vitamin C content.

Glaxo Smith Kline was also ordered in the Auckland district court yesterday to run corrective advertisements and a message on its website for breaching New Zealand's fair trading laws.

The deception was exposed in 2004 when two 14 year old students tested the drink's vitamin C content for a science project. Jenny Suo, now 17, said she was happy the company had been held to account. Anna Devathasan said she was glad the company admitted its guilt.

Judge J.P Gittos told the court the mislabeling of Ribena was ''not just inaccurate but wholly false''

.......beginning of the end for this company?
