British hen rescuer NOT GUILTY

(England)

British activist Donald Currie has been found not guilty of burglary despite admitting removing 15 hens from an egg farm in the south of England.

Police with dogs and a helicopter arrested him near the farm late one night in March 2004.

Donald explained that the hens had all been found in the waste pits below the cages and that there was rat poison in the pits.

Therefore he argued he had acted to save the birds.

In what is believed to be the first case of its kind in the UK, the jury agreed that Donald had acted with honest intent and returned a unanimous verdict of not guilty.
