For vet students everywhere, I highly
recommend Catherine Tiplady's article 'Animal Use in Veterinary Education -- The
Need for a Fourth R: Respect' in the new journal PiLAS (
http://www.atla.org.uk /). I've tried to
attach it here -- not sure if this will work. The accounts of curricular animal
abuse and the attitudes of some vet students are very disturbing. I encourage
other students and graduates in the life and health sciences to similarly
publish in the academic literature their own accounts of any animal abuse they
experience, and add to Catherine's call to stamp out these disgraceful
practices, and replace them with humane teaching methods and respect for the
lives of animals.
Thank you,
